Meet Dr. John H. Sirak

Dr. John H. SirakJohn H. Sirak, MD, is a cardiothoracic surgeon at The Ohio State University Medical Center specializing in cardiac surgery such as minimally invasive valve surgery and arrhythmia surgery as well as general thoracic surgery. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery. Currently, he serves as a clinical assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at OSU. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Sirak was a clinical associate with the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

After earning his MD degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1991, Dr. Sirak embarked on 14 years of postgraduate specialty training, including General Surgery Residencies at both The Ohio State University and the University of California, Davis. He also completed a 2-year Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency and a 1-year Minimally-Invasive Cardiac Surgery Fellowship at The Ohio State University.

As a heart surgeon in Ohio, Dr. Sirak's current research focuses exclusively on atrial fibrillation treatments. He is the principal investigator for a study of minimally invasive surgical therapy of AF and co-investigator in a single center randomized controlled trial of epicardial vs. percutaneous atrial fibrillation therapy. He has also led or been involved with several prior research studies and fellowships.

An author or co-author of over 3 dozen publications and presentations, Dr. Sirak is also an ad hoc reviewer for the journal Annals of Thoracic Surgery. He believes in the importance of finding minimally-invasive surgical techniques to improve heart surgery outcomes, especially in the area of atrial fibrillation treatment.
